State Criteria

When a child is assessed for the first time, he/she must qualify for services according to the State of MN criteria.  This means that a child's score on standardized tests, for example,  must place them at or below two standard deviations below the mean or at the first or second percentile. That is to say, if there was a random sample of 100 children who were all the same age and they took the same test, scoring at the first or second percentile means that 98 or 99 of the children from this sample would score above this child.
