Jenny Lind Music Classes are available to all students k-5 on a weekly basis.  The National and Minnesota Music Standards are carefully incorporated into our lessons.  These standards include age appropriate learning in the areas of melody, rhythm, harmony, dynamics, tone color, texture, form and their related concepts.  Students also learn to read, notate and compose music at a developmentally appropriate level.  Classes learn to sing and play instruments with accurate pitch, rhythm and expression through the Solfege system and standard music notation.

VOCAL MUSIC

Our vocal music classes include elements of rhythm and melody during each session.  We start teaching in-depth rhythmic concepts in September.  Beginning in December, our focus elements are melody and pitch.  Various classroom instruments are incorporated into both these units, and include individual skill building in rhythmic and/or melodic composition.  Students begin working on performance skills and polishing specific songs in March for a culminating event in May!

STRINGS

Students in grades1-3 are participating in small group lessons.  Concepts in the state and national standards and vocal music classes are reinforced, refined and applied in the performance of their stringed instruments.  Students and parents receive a hand book (also available in the string section of this website) that outlines basic procedures, instrument care, and some practice routines.  MacPhail School of Music is a community partner in our string program, and Parents are also expected to be enthusiastic partners in their student's music education!
