Dear Jenny Lind Families,
Distance learning has provided everyone new opportunities to engage with our community about how we teach and learn. This winter, teachers will give students computer-based assessments in literacy and math. These assessments are called universal screeners and are used to assess broad skills and grade level proficiency. These are the same assessments your student would have participated in if they were attending school in person.
In order to provide additional support to your student, their teacher may also administer one-to-one interview-based assessments (similar to those given in the fall) following the universal screeners. These assessments are used to further identify what your student knows in literacy and math and help their teacher plan individualized instruction.
Students will take the math and literacy universal screeners during distance learning between December 14th- January 15, 2021. At Jenny Lind we have set aside January 4tyh - 15th to complete additional one-to-one, interview-based assessments for some students.Outside of their scheduled assessment time, your student will receive independent learning activities to complete. Information about your student’s Universal Screener results and interview-based assessment(s) (if given) will be shared at winter conferences.
VERY IMPORTANT: It is extremely important that the screeners be completed by your studentwithout your assistance for item answers. Any assistance by you will provide inaccurate information to your student’s teacher and will affect instructional decisions.
To help your student be successful on these assessments during distance learning:
1.Minimize distractions for your student as much as possible
2.Provide a quiet testing environment
3.Allow the teacher to read the directions to the test
5.Use the chat feature to communicate with the teacher
6.Follow any additional instructions from the teacher
Thank you for all you are doing to support and care for your student during these times.
Pao Vue, Principal
