Ms. Kautz

Welcome to first grade!  I am so happy you are in my class this year at Jenny Lind Elementary! I have taught for 2 years with Minneapolis Public Schools and this will be my first year at Jenny Lind. I am looking forward to joining the welcoming and friendly Jenny Lind staff.

I grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois and attended the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities. I loved Minnesota so much that I decided to stay.

I hope you are excited to begin first grade because this will be a fun and fascinating year of learning!  Throughout the year, we will strengthen and expand our skills as readers, writers and mathematical problem-solvers as we tackle new concepts and challenges in all academic areas.  We will read, discuss and write about intriguing new topics to improve our literacy skills. In social studies, we will explore our personal histories, learn more about what it means to be a good citizen and community member and observe maps of our community and the world. Your child will be improving their marvelous math skills as we go even more deeper into place value, addition, subtraction, shapes, telling time and counting money. We will explore new science concepts and experiments during the school year. Your child will learn about the practice of science and engineering, classifying and sorting rocks and earth materials, describing and sorting animals and using many scientific tools. These are just a few of the interesting and captivating experiences awaiting you in the year ahead!

I believe that open communication between home and school is very important! I will be communicating through emails, newsletters, and quick notes, so please check your child’s backpack each night so that you have all of the up to date information.
