I am excited to begin work with the Jenny Lind Community as a school social worker focused on High Five, Kindergarten, and 1st graders.  I grew up in Minneapolis, but moved back here from Oakland, California after living in the Bay area for almost 20 years.  I got my bachelor’s in social work from San Francisco State University and my master’s in social work from Berkeley.  After graduate school, I was an elementary level school social worker in the San Francisco Unified School District for 11.5 years.

I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with families and teachers to support Minneapolis children in getting the quality education they deserve.  I see education as a civil rights issue in our country and I work hard with staff and families to counteract the many inequities in our white supremacist society.  Therefore, I see it as a part of my job to look for new ways of doing things to break the pattern of inequities in our country and our educational system.  I work to provide resources to students, families, and colleagues so that students have basic needs met, as well as what they need to thrive and access their education.  Social emotional support and education is also an important part of my job. By working with students to develop skills in conflict management, empathy, emotional regulation, and self-confidence, I believe we can support this generation of kids to make the world a more just and peaceful place.

A little more about me:  I moved back to Minneapolis to be closer to family and I’m excited to be back in my hometown.  I live with my husband, 2-year-old daughter Harriet, our dog Andrey, and two cats Minnie (short for Minneapolis) and Buddy.  We have a second daughter on the way due at the end of December!  In my free time, I love hiking, singing, and knitting.  As a school social worker, I love getting to know kids and their families.  Please stop by my room to get to know me anytime.  I love having lunch with students and can’t wait to get to know all the wonderful Jenny Lind families and staff!
